SINGAPORE LAST'S VIDEO RENTAL SHOP
Singapore's Last Video Rental Shop (Photo Series)
Established more than 40 years ago, Rida Video Centre is probably one of Singapore’s last and oldest non-chain video rental shops. Words cannot describe what this small little shop has done for filmmakers and film buffs in Singapore.
It’s an immense honour to have been given access to document their story since 2025. What started out as a customer–shop owner–documentarian relationship has now turned into a genuine friendship. Thank you, Laurel, Alex, Lily, and Nicholas, for giving me the chance to tell Rida’s story.
Words cannot describe what we’ve lost. So here’s a series of photographs that I took while making my latest documentary, Singapore’s Last Video Rental Shop.
This series of photographs was shot on the Nikon Z 8 with the NIKKOR Z 14–30mm f/4 S and Z 24–70mm f/2.8 S lenses.
This is one of the hardest documentaries I’ve had to make recently because this space means a lot to me. Honestly, I don’t know where I can find a safe space like this anymore. Look out for the documentary sometime in May on my YouTube channel.
